The full explanation
Telangana replaced its entire minimum wage framework with effect from 1 June 2026. G.O.Ms.No.6, issued on 30 May 2026 under the Code on Wages 2019, supersedes G.O.Ms.No.116 of 7 December 2007, which had governed the state's wages for nearly two decades.
Under the new order, Zone I unskilled is set at approximately Rs. 16,000 per month, which is Rs. 615 per day. Zone II is Rs. 15,000 and Zone III is Rs. 14,000. These are consolidated basic wages issued under the Code, not a Basic-plus-VDA total.
That distinction is the practical point. The 2007 regime worked on a point-linked formula: the variable dearness allowance was calculated at Rs. 6.4 per Consumer Price Index point above a 525-point base for shops and commercial establishments. For the cycle beginning 1 April 2026, with the index at 1,995 points, that produced a VDA of Rs. 9,408 per month on top of the basic. From 1 June 2026 that mechanism no longer applies.
Because the two systems compute wages differently, figures either side of 1 June 2026 are not directly comparable. The 1 October 2025 cycle had Zone I unskilled at Rs. 12,762 under the old regime, with semi-skilled at Rs. 13,164, skilled at Rs. 13,784 and highly skilled at Rs. 14,619. Moving from Rs. 12,762 to Rs. 16,000 looks like a 25 per cent rise, and in headline terms it is, but part of that gap is the old VDA now sitting inside the consolidated figure rather than beside it. Check your wage structure against the new definition before assuming either compliance or a shortfall.
